Powering HubSpot’s Global Stage
TL;DR
I was a core member of the Dreamwave team for over two years, focused on frontend development and scaling the architecture of the virtual events platform. I led the development of a scalable, token-based white-labeling system and partnered closely with design to implement a workflow that kept design tokens in sync between Figma and production code. During my time on the team, I built a large set of reusable components and helped deliver six major conferences for HubSpot, including their flagship INBOUND event and multiple regional Grow conferences across EMEA and ANZ.
Impact
I accelerated development velocity and improved UI consistency across conference implementations by leading targeted frontend refactors. I introduced a Style Dictionary–driven design token system using CSS custom properties, reducing rebranding work from hours to minutes. I also consolidated fragmented frontend logic into a unified, composable architecture that supported multiple data types without sacrificing performance. These architectural improvements enabled the platform to scale reliably, powering global digital events with more than 75, 000 attendees.
Description
Dreamwave was engineered to solve the "disconnection" of early virtual events by replacing basic video players with a "fully branded web application" designed to feel intentional and cohesive. For HubSpot, this platform functioned as a "virtual campus, " scaling the flagship INBOUND experience from a local 11, 000-person event to a global digital ecosystem hosting more than 75, 000 attendees. The product allowed users to move seamlessly between live sessions, metaverse-style networking rooms, and interactive sponsor environments. Specifically for HubSpot's content-heavy conferences, we utilized an On-Demand session architecture where recordings were automatically uploaded to the cloud and surfaced in the UI via Airtable metadata for near-instant replays. I spearheaded the development of the platform's most dynamic 2D interactions, building a draggable grid component that served as the primary model for attendee networking and digital "Gift Bags". To ensure the system remained "customizable without complexity, " I refactored the navigation logic to handle thousands of entries without lag, making the search experience feel "extremely fast". This unified digital ecosystem ultimately empowered HubSpot to deliver a "consumer-grade" learning and buying experience across its flagship and regional Grow conferences. Using Dreamwave to host these conferences was like moving from a simple television broadcast to building a fully interactive theme park; instead of just watching a screen, attendees could explore different lands, interact with each other, and access any attraction at their own pace.
